Mrs. Connie Barrow has worked with choirs and chorales for much of her adult life. She received voice training from Earnest and Laverne Anderson, who were professional vocal coaches in the Seattle area. She also took lessons from Gerald Ferguson while her husband was a student at Walla Walla College (now Walla Walla University). While at Walla Walla, she and her husband sang in Schola Cantorum, a select chorale at the college. Also while at Walla Walla University, Mrs. Barrow directed a singing group in performing several spirituals during a presentation of James Weldon Johnson's God's Trombones. Mrs. Barrow was blessed to be able to sing under the direction of the very talented Moses Hogan, just before his untimely death in 2003.He directed Mr.Juan Huey-Ray and The Sound of the Northwest in singing several of his own musical arrangements. Even though she enjoys singing, conducting is Mrs. Barrow’s passion.
In 1977, Mrs. Barrow established a twenty-five member singing group called Orion, in Seattle.
In 2001, she formed a ladies' singing group called One Accord. That group functioned until 2006.
Currently Mrs. Barrow is conducting the Orion Chorale of Washington State, a vocally mixed group, that was re-established in 2007.
